Hosiery Knitted Coverings and Types of Some Hosiery Items


Hosiery Knit
The term hosiery specially refers to knitted coverings for the feet and legs but it may be generally applied to all types of knitted goods and fabric.
Most hosiery articles are knitted with integral tubular legs and feet on small diameter circular machines. The welts and tops of hosiery goods are usually knitted first; the foot and toe last closing the toe also produce a secure finish.

Types of Hosiery:

1. Hose, which have a leg –length extending above the knee.
2. Three quarter hose, which are of knee larges.
3. Men’s halt hose, which are usually in two leg length ranges of 7 inches to 9 inches and 11 inches to15 inches.
4. Stockings, which are designed to fit the leg up to and above the knee.
5. Tights, particularly in the fine gauge, which are termed panty hose in USA. They may have a body section of the same knitted structure as the legs and elasticized waist ban.

Types of Hosiery Machines:

1. Single Cylinder Machine
2. Cylinder and Dial Machine
3. Double Cylinder Machine.
