Blowroom

Some reports are available regarding the effect of cleaning machinery upon fibre characteristics. Behery (1992) narrated that opening and cleaning machines removes short fibres and effect the change in fibre length due to fibre/machine interaction, whereas Schneider (1995) advocated that the Rieter Uniclean performs three main functions equally well viz; efficient cleaning at the start of the blow room lines, integration of an efficient dedusting elements and exceptionally gentle treatments of fibres. Similarly Klein (2000) lamented that Uniclean leads to a higher degree of cleaning, a better cleaning efficiency, and less stress on the fibres. Also Liu et al. (2001) commented as the large variation of single fibre properties within a single variety suggests a very strong influence of growth conditions and development.
Materials and Methods
The present research was initiated in the Department of Fibre Technology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and conducted at Resham Textile Industries Limited Pattoki District Kasoor during the year 2002. The details of the material used and methods applied to test the raw material and to measure various quality characteristics are briefly described here under.
Material Used
Lint cotton samples with different level of trash was collected from running material at M/S Resham Textile Industries Limited, cotton samples were subjected to the physical testing.
Spinning Process
Lint cotton with different levels of trash was processed at Trutzschler blow room line with and without Reiter Uniclean set-up, and following mechanical changes were undertaken at Uniclean as well as Giant cleaner in blow room.
After every possible combination of above variables at Uniclean as well as Giant cleaner, samples from the duct were collected and tested for the basic fibre characteristics along with the quality evaluation tests for staple length and uniformity ratio.
clip_image002
Atmospheric Conditions
The testing work was carried out under the standard laboratory conditions, which were maintained at 65+2% relative humidity and 20±2°C temperature.
Statistical Analysis
Four Factor Factorial Completely Randomized Design was applied in the analysis of variance for testing differences among various quality characters studied in this investigation. Duncan’s Multiple Range Test was also applied for individual comparison of means among various quality characteristics as suggested by Steel and Torrie (1980). The data thus obtained was subjected to statistical manipulation on computer employing M-Stat micro computer program as devised by Freed (1992).
Results and Discussion
Span Length
The statistical analysis of variance regarding to span length of cotton for different settings at Uniclean as well as Giant cleaner in blow room is given in Table 1. The effects of Machines (M) and Beater Speed (5) are found highly significant. However the effects of trash percentage in cotton upon span length and of interactions are non-significant.
The comparison of individual mean values for machines in blow room on fibre span length is presented in Table la. Which indicated that the highest fibre span length of value 27.48 millimeter is obtained for Uniclean (M1) and the lowest value of staple length 27.43 mm is obtained for Giant cleaner (M2). Hence these machines differ significantly for their action upon cotton. On the basis of above results, it is crystal clear that Uniclean exert swift gentle but firm action of less stress on fibres whereas the action of Giant cleaner is very aggressive and severe during its cleaning action which is detrimental to fibre staple. Similarly views were put forth by Klein (2000) who lamented that Uniclean leads to a higher degree of cleaning, a better cleaning efficiency, and less stress on the fibres. Identical observation were presented by Schneider (1995) who advocated that the Rieter Uniclean performs three main functions equally well viz; efficient cleaning at the start of the blow room lines, integration of an efficient deducting elements and exceptionally gentle treatments of fibres. Hence it can be very well visualized from the present research of that the cleaning action Uniclean is exceptionally smart and safe, less injurious to fibre for fibre cleaning operation in comparison with/to Giant cleaner.
As regards to the trash percentage the comparison of individual means revealed that best value of staple length (27.47 mm) is recorded at T1 followed by T nand T 3with their respective means as 27.45 and 27.44 mm and these values are at par. The above results indicate that trash record independent effect upon staple length. Some previous researchers indicated that mill cleaning opens the cotton to small tuft size and extract as much trash as possible before the cotton goes to card and proper cleaning protects the staple length (Bel et al., 1991).
Duncan’s multiple range test for individual comparison of mean values reveals, that beater speed, starting from B1 (480 rpm) till Be (960 rpm) recorded highly significant difference in their mean values. At B4 (629 rpm) maximum value of fibre length is observed followed by B3, B5, B6, B2, B7, Be and B1, respective mean for staple being 27.50, 27.49, 27.48, 27.46, 27.44, 27.44,27.42 and
27.41 millimeter. The above results express that for too high or too low beater speeds, the corresponding fibre length decreases, while the moderate speed B4 (629 rpm) recorded best results. The present research findings get full confirmation from the work of Iqbal (2002) who concluded that fibre length decreased both at too low and too high beater speeds.
As regard to grid bar settings, best mean value of fibre length is recorded at (G5) followed by G4, G3, G2 and G1 with their respective mean values of length as 27.47, 27.46, 27.46, 27.45 and 27.44 millimeter. These values indicate nill effect of grid bar settings upon fibre length. Similarly previous researcher Maqsood (2000) postulated that grid bar settings at scutcher has a nonsignificant effect on fibre length. Whereas Behery (1992) advanced this statement that opening and cleaning machines removes short fibres and effect the change in fibre length due to fibre/machine interaction. From the above all results it can be inferred that grid bar opening angle has no effect upon the staple of cotton because it only facilitate the drain of non-lint elements.

Action in Blow room | How to blow-room works in Textile Spinning?

Blowroom action in textile spinning
There is some action which is carried out on blow room section of textile spinning manufacturing section.
1. Action of opposite strike: The actions of opposite spike opened the cotton fibre. By this action the large pieces of cotton have been reduced in size.
2. Action of air current: During processing, the movement of cotton from machine to machine is done by air current. It also helps the separation of lint and trash.
3. Action of beater: Beaters are responsible for removing almost all of the impurities extracted in the blow room. Beaters also helps opening and cleaning.
4. Actions of regulating motion: The action of regulating motion gives the uniform output by the help of sewing door, swing paddle.

Fundamental Idea of Cotton Bale

it is necessary to know about cotton bale. Bale of cotton is the main thing that can enhance your spinning productivity. Cotton bale is brought at blowroom section from the store. Store receives the cotton bale within a loose form form the cotton seller.

Cotton or any staple fibres are received in the form of compressed bales. If the mill is situated very near the cotton growing areas, they situated very near the cotton growing areas, they may receive cotton in loose form. The size, weight, density of bales for cotton varies from country to country. The following table illustrate the variation:
Cotton BaleHere a chart i have given, from where you will be able to know about the standard cotton bale.  These bale of cotton is mentioned along with their type i,e the source country, dimension which is expressed in inch, weight in pound and density per cubic foot.
Type—–Dimension (inch) –Weight in Lbs—–Density/ Cubic Foot
1. Indian>>>>>>4.1*1.10*1.4>>>>400>>>>>39
2. African >>>>>4.3*2.7*1.10>>>400>>>>>>28
3. Egyptian >>>>4.3*2.7*1.10>>>>>>720>>>35
4. American>>>>4.6*3.4*2.3>>>>>>480>>>2.2
From the above chart it is seen that the American Cotton Bale is mostly standardized and good for quality spinning.

BLOWROOM | Opening and cleaning

This machine has been fundamental in improving quality, as it enables to remove from the feeding bales, which number can be up to 100, very small tufts of material.
This fact is the ideal prerequisite for a good blending in the subsequent passages.
The plucking carriage can handle cotton and man-made fibres with up to 60 mm staple length.
clip_image0363
The subsequent opening and blending line must be studied and adjusted according to the kind of cotton, to its degree of impurity and to the quality to be obtained.
The search after blends of different qualities of cotton is of utmost importance to optimize the quality/cost ratio.
clip_image0383
The mixer (Fig. 2) plays therefore a fundamental role to produce a homogeneous fibre mixture which can lead to an optimal regularity in terms of tenacity and of count of the end-product and consequently to reduce yarn breakages on the following machines.
The automatic mixer can have up to eight cells , with standard delivery or with joint cleaning unit.
The material, reduced to small tufts, is delivered to the horizontal opener and to the dust separator.
In case of blending of two different fibres, two weighing hopper feeders can enter into the line, in order to achieve an intimate blend of the two fibres (Fig. 3).
clip_image0403
The fibres are conveyed by a power-driven fan into the feeding channel of the feed chute positioned above the cards.
Each card is equipped with its own feed chute. In some cases a horizontal opener is used, equipped with dust suction hood before the feed chutes.
A regular feeding of the material to the upper rooms of the feed chutes and a constant weight of the delivery material guarantee the excellent count regularity of the card sliver. In the opening line, machines have been included which detect foreign substances among the cotton fibres, as heavy matters, synthetic material, etc. and eliminate them through local suction systems.
The spinning preparation phases are summarized in Chart 2.
clip_image0423
(*) Number and type of opening and picking machines depend greatly on the quality degree and on the impurity contents of cotton.

Cotton Blowroom – Performance analysis

Comparative Performance Analysis of Blowroom Cleaning Machinery for Cotton
Fibre Length Characteristics

Abstract: The effect of beater speed, grid bar setting and cotton trash percentage upon Uniclean (B 11) and Giant cleaner setup were studied for quality characteristics of cotton. The results in respect of fibre length and uniformity ratio showed highly significant differences in the mean values for different combination of settings as well as cleaning segments. Uniclean exert swift gentle but firm action of less stress on fibres whereas the action of Giant cleaner is very aggressive and severe during its cleaning action, which is detrimental to fibre staple.
Key words: Uniclean, Blowroom, Cotton Fibre Length, span length, Uniformity Ratio

Introduction
The cotton textile industry enjoys a highly significant position in the economy of Pakistan. For today’s rapidly advancing textile industry and quality conscious international market, the comprehensive information about the characteristics of lint cotton, which is the raw material of the industry is a dire need for producing quality goods at competitive costs by way of reducing wastage and improving productivity level.
Since mechanized spinning industry came into being various opening and cleaning machines were developed most of which are now obsolete. With the passage of time and with the advent of new technologies high-speed machines were designed having more opening and cleaning efficiency. In the past a typical blow room line for the cleaning of cotton consists of four to six, and in some cases even seven beating points. The underlying idea was to open and clean the material slowly and gradually. But during the last decade, the trend has shifted to minimize the number of machines in the blow room line. Now in modern cleaning line only two to three beating points are available. This became possible only due to the introduction of machines with higher degree of opening capabilities.
Most of the spinning mills in Pakistan are equipped with conventional cleaning set-up in blow room. Step or Giant cleaner for example is used for excellence in opening and cleaning of cotton through the combination of the action of opposing spikes and the beating action. In this machine, the material falls into the feed hopper and passes to the first beater. From there, it is transported upwards by six beating rollers, each carrying profiled bars, the beaters are arranged on a line inclined upwards at 45°. The elimination of impurities takes place during the continual passage of the material over the grid arranged under the rollers. The grids are always adjustable and usually the beater speed is also adjustable. In Giant cleaner, progressive increase
in speed results in a directly proportional increase in waste extraction. The proportions of lint and trash in the dropping are independent of speed up to about 550 rev/min, so that a much greater cleaning efficiency is achieved at these higher speeds. At speed greater than 550 rev/min, however the lint loss is much greater as compared to the trash extraction.

clip_image004
Length Uniformity Ratio
The statistical analysis of variance regarding to length uniformity ratio of cotton for different settings at Uniclean as well as Giant cleaner in blow room is given in Table 2a, which indicate that the effects of Machines (M), Beater Speed (5) and Grid bar settings (G) are highly significant whereas the effect of trash percentage in cotton and all interactions are non-significant.
The comparison of individual mean values for machines in blow room on length uniformity ratio is presented in Table 2b. Which indicate that maximum length uniformity ratio of 47.49 percent is obtained for Uniclean (M1) and the lowest value of 47.17 percent is obtained for Giant cleaner (M2). Hence these machines significantly differ from one another. From the above discussion it is evident that the performance of Uniclean is for better then Giant cleaner. Similar views were put forth by Schneider (1995) who mentioned that the Reiter Uniclean performs three main functions equally well viz efficient cleaning at the start of the blow room lines, integration of an efficient deducting elements and exceptionally gentle treatments of fibres. Similarly Anonymous (2000) argued that the Uniclean B„ is a machine for cleaning and extracting for cotton of any origin. Impurities are removed gently and effectively. The raw material is feed through without nipping. Hence it can be very well visualized from the present research, that cleaning action of Uni-clean is exceptionally smart and safe, less injurious to fibre for fibre cleaning operation in comparison with Giant cleaner.
The individual comparison for trash percentage recorded non-significant differences in their mean values. Maximum value of length uniformity ratio is recorded at T, followed by T2 and T3 with their respective mean values as 47.42, 47.32 and 47.36 percent. The above results indicate that trash in cotton does not record any significant effect upon length uniformity ratio. Previous researcher agreed that cotton yarn irregularity was considerably influenced by the properties of fibre from which uniformity was the most important property Ramey and Beaton (1989).
The individual comparison of means values reveals that various beater speeds starting from B, (480 rpm) till B, (960 rpm) recorded highly significant differences in their mean values. At B4 (629 rpm) maximum value of length uniformity is observed followed by B3, B5, B2, B6, B1, B7 and B8 with their respective means being 47.64, 47.59, 47.48, 47.36, 47.28, 47.19, 47.16 and 46.96 percent. The above results express that uniformity ratio gradually decrease with the increase in beater speed. At high speed more short fibre are produced which may cause reduction in uniformity ratio. The present finding get full confirmation from the work of lqbal (2002) who noted that at higher beater speed more short fibres are formed which may cause reduction in uniformity ratio. In earlier work Backe (1986) reported that as uniformity increased, the short fibre content decreased.
The individual means of grid bar opening differ significantly from each other for the length uniformity ratio of cotton fibre. Best value of uniformity ratio (47.79%) is recorded at G5 opening followed by G4, G3, G2 and G, with their respective mean values as 47.56, 47.33, 47.09 and 46.90 percent. The present results show that at wider opening of grid bar, the uniformity ratio may improve due to the removal of short fibre. Similar views are given by Maqsood (2000) who elucidated that short fibre content may reduce as the more opening of grid bar and uniformity ratio may improve. Likewise Ghani (1997), reported that uniformity ratio of fibres is increased due to removal of short fibres.
clip_image006
Beating action of both machines M1 (Uniclean) and M, (Giant cleaner) negatively affected fibre quality characteristics. However, the performance of Uniclean B11 was exceptionally good for fibre span length and length uniformity ratio. Different intrinsic trash levels have no effect upon fibre span length and length uniformity ratio. Too low and too high speed negative effect upon span length and uniformity ratio. The effect of changing grid bar setting has non-significant effect on span length while the highly significant effect on uniformity ratio.

Designed to take advantage of the exceptionally efficient pm-opening of the Automatic Bale Opener the Crosrol Pre-Cleaner through its unique “single sheet” material processing technique gives not only exceptional Cleaning but also maximum fibre yield with minimal Nep generation when compared to other first stage cleaners currently available.
The machines high processing capacity (2000Kg’s per hour) together with its in-built cleaning programmes allow multiple opening lines processing varying materials blends to be fed from a single Crosrol Pre-Cleaner (CPC).
1. Dust Removal:
A large Perforated Hood separates the incoming material from the air stream and provides a substantial surface area for the removal of the liberated Dust and fine Trash particles.
2. Feed Control: The material reserve section in conjunction with the inverter driven Feed rollers ensure a constant & controlled feed to the Opening Beater.
Opening 8 Cleaning:
A large single cylinder Inverter controlled beater with helically positioned Opening prongs opens & forms the material into a low density uniformed sheet of material ensuring optimum opening & cleaning of each and every Fibre Tuft.
3. Micro Dust Removal: The opened material passes a secondary perforated screen for highly effective removal of small trash particles and dust.
Control and Flexibility:
Newly developed remotely controlled Grid bars are formed into two independently adjustable banks which provide optimum Cleaning with maximum Fibre yield for any given material been processed.
Waste Extraction:
Liberated trash particles fall into a pressure controlled waste collection chamber and are extracted via the Air-lock wheel.
.4) Protection of Fibre Parameters:
After a single interaction with the Grid bar area, the sheet of low density fibres are efficiently stripped from the Beater so as to negate the need for unnecessary over-working of the fibres at this early stage of the opening line.

The Crosrol singular low-density sheet format ensures that all Trash Particles are fully exposed to the cleaning actions of the machine.
Trash particles are concealed inside multiple dense rolls of material with other similar available types of first stage
cleaning machines.
clip_image024
Material processed in a Singular Low-Density Sheet format
Unlike other first stage cleaners that have multiple random attempts to open & clean the material, The Crosrol Pre-Cleaner (CPC) processes a singular sheet of low density material which ensures that each singular tuft of material is subjected to exactly the same degree of opening and cleaning as the next tuft,
This unique working principal ensures that all trash particles are fully exposed to the cleaning actions of the machine rather than been concealed (as with other similar types of machines) inside multiple dense rolls of material, this unique feature of the Crosrol Pre-Cleaner also ensures that nap generation and fibre damage are kept to an absolute minimum.
CBO - Crosrol Blending Opener
The range of Crosrol Blenders with their unique combination of advanced design features have for many years provided massively enhanced blending power in comparison with conventional serial-fill blenders.
Now the latest generation of Crosrol Blending Openers (C80) offer the possibility of incorporating a uniquely flexible Opening Module, which can provide additional Opening & Cleaning for types of fibres where additional cleaning is required all within the same one Blending unit resulting in major space, energy and investment savings.
Opening Module for Complete Flexibility
The newly introduced Crosrol Pinned Opening Module (POW provides added flexibility to any opening line; with its unique adaptation to the standard range of Crosrol Blending Openers a complete flexible solution for any type of fibre can be quickly achieved.
Material Feeding
A loose layer of tufts from the upper mixing chambers are transported via a secondary (upper) conveyor and condensed before been lightly gripped by the Opening Modules precision feed rollers.
Opening & Cleaning Configuration
The inverter driven Spirally Pinned opening beater opens fibres and loosens the trash, the loosened trash particles are removed by a bank of automatically (Dial-in settings) adjustable grid bars.
Flexibility Through Design
The complete Pinned Opening Module can be removed from the Crosrol Blending Opener within only a few minutes allowing for the unit to be ‘Bypassed’ from the opening line process when the material been does not warrant the additional cleaning that the Opening Module provides.
Unique Blending Power
* Random filling of the chambers avoids the complexity of the conventional ‘flap’ distribution system and effectively doubles
the blending capacity of serial fill blenders.
1 Control Feed rollers at the base of each chamber operate at different speeds in ratios of up to 1:1.4.
I!. Columns of fibre in each chamber are of differing heights, in conjunction with the ‘sandwich’ blending on the conveyor belt
further enhances blending power.
Advanced Features as Standard Lead to
Excellent Machine Performance
4. Four & Six chamber versions with various heights in the range of 4.0M to 6.0M ensure an optimum mixing system can be achieved for any individual application.
5. Dust is continuously removed through perforated screens in the upper chamber; extensive surface aids effective cleaning.
1. Entire system designed to preserve the very small tuft sizes achieved by up-stream opening machines, Special Spirally Pinned aluminium opening beaters in conjunction with feed rollers in each blending chamber further reduces tuft sizes.
* Belt conveyor provides direct feed to down-stream cleaning machines saving space, energy and investment costs, Air Doffed applications are available as an option if required.

CFC – Crosrol Fine Cleaner
The Crosrol Fine Cleaner (CFC) is usually regarded as the final Cleaning point in an Opening line and is used to process both Natural and Synthetic fibers, The 1500mm working width (Standard with all Crosrol Blowroom machines) ensures a gentle action with the additional ability to give very high production rates (Up to 750Kg’ s per hour).
The single beater roll concept significantly reduces the negative side effects familiar with Multi-roll intensive cleaners — i.e. higher nep counts and loss of good fibres, This together with a wide range of Pinned and Wired beaters ensures that the
Crosrol Fine cleaner range of machines gives optimum Cleaning and increased fibre yield during this vital stage of the opening line.
Pinned Opener / Cleaner (CFC-P)
MATERIAL Feed System:
The machine is fed by Feed Conveyor from the preceding machine, the speed of the conveyor is Inverter driven with simple dial-in speed changes made from the Touch screen display so as to optimise the production and cleaning capabilities of the machine, The wired covered feed roller ensures gentle yet effective controlled fibre feeding to the beater roller.
(a) Opening & Cleaning Configuration:
The Inverter driven single cylinder Pinned (6-lag fully pinned or 3-lag kirschner) beater roll (dial-in speed control) interacts with trash removal knives or solid under-screen (as applicable) to provide gentle opening of the fibres.
clip_image032
clip_image034
Wired Opener I Cleaner (CFC-W)
Opening & Cleaning Configuration:
The Inverter driven single cylinder wired beater roll (dial-in speed control) interacts with specially developed multiple pinned combing segments and trash removal knives (where applicable) to provide gentle opening and maximum release of dust and entangled trash particles.
Waste Control System:
Waste removal levels are controlled by air control Kars located before each of the trash knives, These simple yet robust control devices can be adjusted during normal production.
Mounted directly adjacent to the trash knives are individual extraction tubes. The system of direct suction offers considerable advantages over conventional waste chambers with increased dust removal values giving a positive effect on yarn quality and operating efficiencies in open end spinning.
CDR - Crosrol Dust Remover
The Crosrol Rotary Dust Remover (CDR) is a purposely-designed unit for the removal of fine & micro dust found in cotton material, the unique design of the Crosrol Rotary Dust Remover ensures unsurpassed cleaning efficiencies are achieved. Effective De-dusting of the material is paramount to running efficiencies in down stream machines specifically in rotor spinning applications. A good de-dusting also leads to considerably higher efficiencies (fewer yarn breaks) in the winding room, Knitting & Weaving mills.
With the unique design of the Crosrol Rotary Dust Remover, not only are positive pressures used to de-dust the material but also significantly high negative pressures are applied so as to obtain the ultimate in De-dusting.
At the heart of the Crosrcil Dust Removal Unit is the rotating perforated disc. The tufts of fibre are blown on to the upper sector of the rotating disc’s surface under positive pressure. To the rear of the disc a negative pressure is applied which holds the material on to the disc assisting in the removal of the fine dust particles.
CFT - Crosrol Feed Tower
The Crosrol Feed Tower (CFT) is primarily used to feed the range of Crosrol Fine Cleaners when the blending function of a Crosrol Blending Opener is not required, it can also be used as a stand-alone unit to provide material storage so as to ensure a consistent and even feed of material to down stream machines (Chute Feed Lines).
Multiple Feed Towers can be fed from a single source (similar to Chute Feeds) without the need for Distributing valves thus ensuring consistent teed and lower exhaust air than with other manufacturers of Feed towers.
Material Feed System
The air borne material is fed into the pressure controlled reserve chamber via a standard material transport fan (MTF). The material is separated from the dust laden air by means of large perforated screens which results in highly effective de-dusting of the material.
Opening & Cleaning Configuration
The inverter driven feed rollers ensure a constant and controlled feed is delivered from the reserve section. The Spirally Pinned opening beater interacts with the fully adjustable Pinned Combing bar to open and loosen trash particles from the material, The loosened trash is removed by means of the multiple grid bars, who’s settings can be adjusted with one single action enabling simple adjustments lobe made to waste removal levels.
Material Doffing
The Opened and Cleaned material can be doffed from the machine via conveyor belt to a connecting machine or simpty by air (Air-doffed).

As the disc rotates the tufts of fibre move from the upper to the lower sector of the disc, The lower sector is isolated from the negative pressure thus allowing the Fibre to be freely released from the disc surface.
By adjusting the disc’s rotational speed an ideal density of fibres can be formed on the disc’s surface for any given production rate.
Unique Key features
Specifically developed stationary inlet duct distributes the in-coming fibres over a large area of the rotating disc,
Simple Rotating Perforated Disc (Inverter controlled) to transfer the fibres through negative and positive quadrants of the unit.
Minimal moving parts ensure simple operation with ultimate reliability of the unit assured.
tl Machine operation insensitive to pressure changes negating the need
for additional fans thus significantly reducing power consumption.

CHB - Crosrol Hopper Blending Opener
Where the scale of type of blowroom does not require an Automatic Bale Opener, the Crosrol Hopper Blending Opener (CHB) opens B blends material hand-fed from bales, The machine produces fine open tufts of fibre, delivered by apron conveyor directly to a beating machine or alternatively it may be air-doffed to the next machine in the opening line.
Feed conveyor of virtually unrestricted length, in 2.5M increments for maximum pre-mixing of bale material.
Large mixing chamber ensures thorough mixing of the tufts.
Surplus material brushed from the lifting lattice by evening roller accumulates in the reserve chamber, blending with newly fed material until height adjustable photo-electric sensors indicates that the required maximum capacity is reached. Degree of opening may be increased by reducing the clearance between evener roller and the lifting lattice.
roller with four pinned bars removes, mixes and opens the material from the lifting lattice and drops it down
on to the delivery unit.
Machine can be supplied with fibre condenser for automatic feeding of material to the machine. HPS - Heavy Particle Separator
Crosrol Heavy Particle Separators (HPS) offer not only a simple solution to the removal of foreign parts but a unique and highly effective way of removing larger trash particles from the material been processed. With no electrical power usage the Crosrol Heavy Particle Separator ensures that there is no simpler or cheaper solution.
Utilizes centrifugal action to remove loose impurities and foreign matter heavier than here tufts from a stream of air-doffed material, with minimum loss of good fibre.
No moving parts individual adjustable grid bars at the foot of a ‘U’ bend deflect the heavier particles down into a large collection chamber.

CSN - Croscan Foreign Fibre Detector
The range of Croscan Foreign fiber detector’s aim to provide an effective and economical solution to your foreign matter contamination.
Croscan utilizes high resolution image processing European cameras. This new image acquisition and processing concept allows high speed image reading at 7000 lines per second with 2560 colour pixels per line per camera.
This type of high resolution is the only practical way to be sure of detecting even the smallest contaminants found in the opening process, and is vital to maintain consistent detection levels even with the slightest colour variation.
Sensitivity is easily adjustable for various raw material parameters.
Positioning of the Croscan Unit
Due to the small size of the Croscan unit, it can usually be mounted directly onto the last opening machine in the blowroom line eliminating the need for additional floor space and the unnecessary long duct runs which ultimately lead to blockages and nes generation that are generally seen with other types of foreign matter detector systems.

 Illumination and Scanning Zone
The fibres pass an enclosed glass section which incorporates the lighting tubes and mirrors. The whole assembly is designed so that it can be quickly withdrawn from the machine for cleaning. Optional Ultra-violet lighting is available for certain applications.
Integrated Electronic (Camera) operating System
The machines electronic operating system is fully built into the high speed European colour camera’s, which use highly iota grated components, No PC / circuit boards / windows software are used in Croscan thus ensuring more reliable and consis tent detections are always achieved.
Pneumatic Ejection Valves for Minimum Lint Removal
The foreign matter is ejected using large European pneumatic nozzles to 32 per machine) so as to ensure effective
removal of the contaminates from the high-speed fibre flow.
Operator Controls
The Croscan uses a mouse operated LCD colour display screen to input the detecting parameters and to display the actual operating data. The display can be mounted either on the machine or remotely positioned in a local supervises office. Fitted to the machine are only four key operated Rotary switches, which allow the user to make simple operating changes such as:
- Camera Display
- Ejection levels for different blends – Size of contaminates to be ejected

Excess Air Box (AIREX)
A simple means of extracting excess transport air and any air-borne dust. The Airex Box is typically installed after the Automatic Bale Opener in Synthetic installations.
Air (and dust) from the material transport system passes along a perforated section of ducting inside the airex box. The excess air and dust are extracted through perforations to the central filter, Adjustable damper controls the amount of air extracted.
Double Magnet Traps (DMT-Z)
Extra powerful Z type Magnetic separator usually fitted at an early stage of the opening line to remove significant metal objects from the material flow.
Double deflection of airflow deposits ferrous debris on two pairs of powerful magnets.
Cs Magnets mounted on hinged panels for easy removal of debris. Inspection windows provided for visual inspection of waste debris,
Which has been deposited on the magnetic surfaces.

Pneumatically Operated Distribution Valves (2WD 1 3WD)
The Crosrol range of two and three way pneumatically operated distribution valves are used primarily for distributing the material flow from a singie source into multiple opening lines.
These types of valves operate automatically (Programmed) in conjunction with up-stream and down-stream opening machines without the need for operator intervention offering a simple yet effective solution to material handling.
Double Magnet Traps (DMT-S)
Magnetic separators offer basic yet reliable protection against ferrous debris in the material flow, usually f tied at the end of the opening line so as to protect venerable down stream processing machines.

Manual Diverter Valves (MDV)
Where installations process a wide range of different materials, Manual Diverter Valves are supplied and fitted within the ductwork to allow complete bypass of a particular opening machine.
T Piece Distributor (TPD)
When two lines of carding machines are to be fed from a single opening line, a T Piece Distributor is used so as to evenly
distribute the material flow into the two separate chute lines.
Material Transport Fan (MTF)
A graduated range of material Transport Fans are available suitable for all instances within the opening line, the fan geometry is optimised for a material-protecting throughput of fibres.
Fill Depending on the application, the fans operate at a constant speed or are controlled by Invertorsm, the necessary motor power is individually calculated for each fan resulting in minimal power usage.
All Crosrol Material Transport Fans use only high-grade aluminium impellers to ensure efficient operation with much reduced chance of spark generation.

The new Rieter blowroom

Seen from a business perspective, the blowroom – apart from the loss of raw material that occurs there – is not a relevant factor in the context of the process costs of the spinning mill as a whole. However, its qualitative influence on the end product is considerable. Fiber length, fiber strength and nep count in particular can deteriorate significantly in a second-rate blowroom, and this would also have an adverse impact on yarn properties.
Innovation in the blowroom
In the past 40 years the number of cleaning stages has been drastically reduced from the original 6 to 2. At the same time line production rates in pre-cleaning and fine cleaning operations have doubled and tripled. In the context of these mutually contradictory trends the required production in the fine cleaner now proves to be critical. The solution to this problem is CLEANfeed (Fig. 1), i.e. the fine cleaning stage is now transferred to the C 60 card chute. “Critical” fine cleaning is thus divided among several systems, i.e. reduced to the production
level of the card.
In the case of a coarse yarn for rotor spinning, maximum production is thus currently 220 kg/h. On the other hand, very finecombed yarns for ring spinning are processed at around 40 kg/h. Fine cleaning is thus adapted automatically via card output to the quality requirements of the end product. Two
variables are responsible for gentle treatment of the raw material from the system standpoint. The increased working width and the low output of CLEANfeed in terms of kg/h.
Effect of CLEAN-line on yarn quality
Studies have shown that these two technological variables directly influence fiber quality and ultimately yarn quality. Fig. 2 shows the effect on neps. In a direct comparison between a
conventional blowroom
and CLEAN-line, nep counts improve by some 10 – 30%, depending on the application. Short fiber content is reduced by some 2.5%, as shown in Fig. 3. This is not only a qualitative advantage that is reflected
clip_image002in imperfections and yarn clearer cuts, it also has an economic impact. The 2.5% reduction in short fiber content also directly affects waste, content (noils) in the combing room.
CLEAN-line – the blowroom system
The quality benefit in the yarn has a technological basis consisting of many detailed features of the CLEAN-line blowroom system (Fig. 4). The elements for success are:
· Microtufts at the very beginning of the process. UNIfloc guarantees gentle opening of the cotton bales with its fine-toothed takeoff roller and fine grid. This creates large surfaces, from which trash can then efficiently be removed. The small tufts also provide the basis for homogeneous, intimate blending.

· The gentle yet efficient cleaning of this tuft surface in the unclamped state in UNIclean.
This ensures that large trash particles are removed at this point. We therefore remain true to our 2-stage cleaning philosophy. With only one cleaning stage, coarse trash losses of good fibers can be particles are shattered.
These particles are then very difficult to eliminate in subsequent processes.
· The VARIOset device in UNIclean and CLEANfeed guarantees quality, flexibility and economy at the highest level. Trash removal and adjusted selectively at the push of a button.
· The unique 3-point blending process in UNImix ensures very intensive blowroom blending and thus uniform quality of the yarn. This is more important than ever
nowadays as processes become shorter and doubling numbers are reduced.
· The fine cleaning stage comprimising several
CLEANfeed units.
The raw material is
thus gently cleaned and dedusted.
The CLEAN-line technology package gives the assurance of having done the best job possible for years to come, in terms of both quality and economy.
